English Language

As a subject, English Language at Glee Path has two fundamental goals: 1) To help students develop a strong grasp of the mechanics and conventions that are necessary for effective communication in English; and 2) To help students cultivate a strong appreciation of the literary elements that make English such a rich and vibrant language.  These twin objectives, Communication and Appreciation, form the two core principles of English Language learning that permeate throughout the six years of Secondary English at Glee Path.

Structure-wise, students at Glee Path take Junior Secondary English in Secondary 1-3 and Senior Secondary English in Secondary 4-6. For Junior Secondary English, the English Team at Glee Path has developed an innovative theme-based curriculum that seeks to strengthen the students’ skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking while at the same time using real-world authentic texts and collaborative projects to ensure that students have a meaningful and unforgettable learning experience.

As for Senior Secondary English, the main focus is the public examination preparation for the HKDSE English Language, to be taken at the end of Secondary 6. Nevertheless, students will also be learning the kind of English that they will need after secondary school, whether at a university setting, in the workplace, or in whichever contexts they will find themselves in. This way, the English Language subject at Glee Path is a strong preparation for the lifelong use and appreciation of English here in Hong Kong and in the rest of the world.
